From Crisis to Care presents findings from the Stay Tuned: A U.S. Journalism Mental Health Survey, based on responses from 80 journalists in 26 states. The report finds that more than 80% of journalists have experienced burnout or chronic stress in the past year, driven by economic insecurity, heavy workloads, unsafe newsroom cultures, and limited access to affordable, culturally competent mental health care. The findings highlight that the crisis is systemic—not individual—and call for journalism-aware, trauma-informed support embedded into newsroom structures and accessible to freelancers and marginalized communities.
